Prior to a Thermal Imaging appointment you will want to:
Shower or bathe the night before your appointment, avoid lotions, ointments, deodorants for 24 hours prior, avoid hot/cold beverages one hour prior, no smoking or caffeine two hours prior, avoid vigorous exercise 4 hours prior, do not sunbathe for 72 hours prior and no sunburn for at least 2 weeks prior to your images, take no pain medications at least 24 hours prior (or if so advise staff if you have taken medications of any type including blood pressure/pain/circulation/anti-coagulant/ aspirin.) Do not undergo any physical therapy or TENS for 24 hours prior, and please wear loose fitting clothing to appointment and remove all jewelry.

Thermography is a physiological test that measures the infrared radiation (heat) that is constantly radiating from the surface of the human body. It checks for abnormal activity, chiefly blood flow, heat and vascular patterns in the body. The levels of heat emanating from a healthy body are symmetrical, and each person has their own unique thermal thumbprint. Abnormal heat patterns suggest abnormal physiological processes happening in the body. Specifically, unusual vascular or temperature patterns are an indicator that there may be a physiological abnormality present, indicating infection, inflammation, trauma or cancer.

Thermal imaging is painless and non-invasive with no compression and no radiation. It is useful for men, women, and children and has been FDA approved since 1982. Thermal imaging can be performed once a year as a preventative health screening, or as often as needed to monitor treatment of a specific area, or as recommended by a physician. Pathologists have recognized the most common pre-cursors (those medical findings that happen before cancer/stroke and before heart attacks) are chronic inflammation, lymphatic congestion, and estrogen dominance. Thermal Imaging can show the presence of these pre-cursors with the use of highly sensitive medical infrared cameras, while Angiograms/MRI/Cat Scans/Ultrasound/Mammograms lack the ability to identify these most fundamental factors.

Breast thermography is not a replacement for mammography; it is adjunctive. Using thermography, we, as patients, can begin to take control of our own health using all the tools available to us. Combining self breast exams, physician exams, thermography and ultrasound or mammography provides us with the advantage of early detection. When treated in the earliest stages, most breast cancer has a cure rate of over 95%.
